StackOverflow
A little off topic for general Hiive news, but I just wanted to post a word for the new Yahoo-Answers-like developer site, www.stackoverflow.com.
As developers working on our products day (and often well into the night and then the next morning), we often find ourselves following familiar paths in the coding process. But sometimes, we need to do something different, and while a general Google search has been de rigueur for a long time, StackOverflow is now becoming a first port of call.
Not only is the content incredibly valuable for a site thats only a few weeks old, the energy of the community and the mutual support you get from other developers is incredible. As a case in point, we had a curly question about SQL Server answered in under 5 minutes, with a perfect answer, while the site was still in private beta.
From the team that bought us the book Joel on Software, StackOverflow is an indispensible resource. We just wanted to say thanks and if you’re a developer reading this and you haven’t checked it out yet, cruise on over to www.stackoverflow.com and sign up.
PS – the design for at least the logo for their site came courtesy of our friends at 99Designs, an Aussie outfit, who’s surprisingly deep pockets sponsored the bar tab at the Shellbourne last Friday night following Web Directions South 08.
